Description Aged Lithograph of Saint Barbara Saint Barbara lived during the reign of Emperor Maximian (286–305 AD) and was the daughter of a pagan. Due to her great beauty, her father confined her in a tower to keep her away from the outside world. However, even in isolation, she was secretly taught Christianity without her father’s knowledge. Her faith became known through a chance event, leading her father to hand her over to the local governor, who subjected her to torture. Ultimately, Saint Barbara was executed by her own father, who was immediately struck dead by lightning afterward. The holy relics of Saint Barbara are preserved in Italy. Aged Lithograph: Characteristics This magnificent icon was crafted using the lithography technique. The monk who created this work trained in the iconography workshops of the monasteries of Mount Athos, where he learned both the lithography technique and the handcrafted artificial aging process evident in this depiction of Saint Barbara. It is noteworthy that lithography in iconography is a specialized printing technique. Origin: Mount Athos
