Description Handmade Pyrography Depicting Saint Marina An exceptional icon crafted using the pyrography technique, depicting Saint Marina. This particular piece has been created entirely by hand. Saint Marina was born in Antioch of Pisidia during the reign of Emperor Claudius II, around 270 A.D. A few days after her birth, her mother passed away, and her father Aedesius, a pagan priest, entrusted her to a Christian woman. Through her, Marina came to know Christ. At the age of 15, she revealed to her father that she was a Christian. Shocked and enraged, he disowned her. Later, the governor Olymbrius learned about Marina and ordered her arrest for interrogation. Upon seeing her, he was struck by her beauty and tried by all means to convince her to renounce Christ and marry him. But in vain. To every attempt made by Olymbrius, Saint Marina firmly replied, “I am a Christian.” Then the cruel governor ordered her to be laid on the ground and mercilessly beaten with rods until the ground was red with her blood. Still bleeding, she was hanged for many hours and later imprisoned. While in prison, the following occurred: the devil, taking the form of a fierce dragon, tried to frighten her. However, she prayed to God, and the dragon transformed into a black dog. Marina then seized a hammer and struck it on the head and back, humbling it.
