Description Antiqued Lithograph with Jesus Christ Pantocrator With the title Pantocrator, Jesus Christ is depicted in Orthodox Christian iconography. The image of Christ Pantocrator typically adorns the central dome (the *troullos*) of Byzantine churches, while in basilica-style churches that lack a dome, the image is placed at the center of the ceiling. The Pantocrator Christ is usually portrayed as strict yet full of love, with His right hand raised in blessing and His left hand holding the Gospel on His chest. Surrounding Him are angels who sing His praises for eternity. Antiqued Lithograph: Characteristics In this particular icon, the monk iconographer used the technique of lithography to create a work of unique beauty. Specifically, by using a lithographed copy of Byzantine art, the monk created this work following the traditional method of artificial aging, as taught to him in the iconography workshops of the Athonite State. Furthermore, the artificial aging of the icon is handmade, a process to which the monks of Mount Athos attach great importance. Origin: Mount Athos
