It is prepared by combining raki (or tsikoudia) with honey and various spices such as cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, and others. The process of fermentation of the sugars in the honey is used in its preparation. Rakomelo, thanks to its two main ingredients, raki and honey, offers the beneficial effects of both for the human body. How is Athonite Rakomelo Consumed? Rakomelo is typically consumed warm. It is considered the best remedy for colds, as it relieves sore throats and coughs. It also acts as an expectorant, opening up the airways. It can be consumed on its own or added to winter beverages. A shot of rakomelo in tea makes it tastier and more effective. However, rakomelo can also be served cold and consumed as an aperitif after a meal.
